The Gunners' Georgian Gambit

By James Mitchell · Published 2026-03-26 · Transfer rumors, news: Arsenal in for PSG star Kvaratskhelia

Arsenal's transfer window is heating up, and not just with the usual recycled names. Word out of Paris, and filtering through London, is that the Gunners are serious about a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Georgian winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. This isn't just another rumor; it feels different.

Kvaratskhelia, who only joined PSG last summer from Napoli for a reported €80 million, had a solid, if not spectacular, debut season in France. He bagged 10 goals and 8 assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances, helping PSG clinch yet another league title. Those numbers are good, especially for a first year in a new league, but they don't quite scream "untouchable superstar" like his Napoli form did. Remember, in his final season with Napoli, he had 12 goals and 10 assists in Serie A, leading them to their first Scudetto in 33 years. He was unplayable at times, a blur of skill and directness.

The Fit at the Emirates

Here's the thing: Arsenal already have Bukayo Saka locking down the right wing, and Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard on the left. So, where does Kvaratskhelia fit? My hot take: Mikel Arteta sees him as more than just a direct swap for Martinelli. He could be deployed as a more advanced attacking midfielder, a free-roaming 10, especially against teams that sit deep. Imagine Kvaratskhelia drifting in from the left, linking with Martin Odegaard, and then finding Kai Havertz in the box. That’s a dangerous proposition for any defense.

Last season, Kvaratskhelia completed 3.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1, a stat that would put him among Arsenal's top ball carriers. His ability to beat a man and create space is exactly what Arsenal sometimes lacked against compact defenses. The Gunners struggled to break down Newcastle in a 1-0 loss at St. James' Park last November, and even in their 2-0 win over Brighton in December, they had to work incredibly hard for their chances. Kvaratskhelia offers that individual brilliance to unlock tight games.

The Cost of Ambition

PSG, as we know, isn't exactly strapped for cash. They paid a hefty sum for Kvaratskhelia just 12 months ago, and they won't be looking to offload him cheaply. Reports suggest Arsenal would need to table an offer north of €100 million to even get them to the negotiating table. That’s a massive outlay, especially after spending over €200 million last summer on Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Havertz.

The club’s financial fair play situation is always a concern, but they’ve been smart with player sales in recent windows. Selling Emile Smith Rowe, for example, could generate some funds, as could a few other fringe players. But committing over €100 million to Kvaratskhelia would signal a serious statement of intent from the Arsenal hierarchy. It would mean they truly believe he’s the missing piece to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title, and compete deep in the Champions League. It’s a gamble, no doubt, but sometimes you have to bet big to win big.

If Arsenal pulls this off, Kvaratskhelia will score 15 goals and provide 12 assists in all competitions next season, silencing any doubters about his price tag.
